What happens to your tyres and tubes?

Tubes will be assessed and if they’re found to be easily repairable by a patch, we will repair them and donate them to our friends at Cycle Jam Canberra to assist the community in freely repairing their bicycles.

Tubes that are not readily repairable will have their valve stems seperated for processing as scrap metal so that the metals in them can be reclaimed and the body of the tube co-mingled with tyres as bellow.

Tyres (and spent tubes) are collected and transported in bulk to a processing facility where they will be shredded locally and sent for further processing after which the metal in them will be reclaimed and recycled. The rubber then goes on to produce recycled rubber products and heavy oil fuel.

As a proud dealer of Schwalbe tyres and tubes, we would be remiss not to tell you about their green credentials. Recycled rubber is featured heavily throughout the Schwalbe range and more so than any other brand. Hence our loyalty. You can read more about it on their website: https://www.schwalbe.com/en/recycling-system/

Note that Schwalbe’s recycling program does not yet have a presence in Australia and is not involved in this recycling stream. But it is so that both the rubber collected here is recycled and Schwalbe uses more recycled rubber than any other bike brand.
